The Savvy 6060

You’re a fully qualified engineer, so how much medical gas education did you receive in your 4 to 6 years of university?

Probably none at all, but now you are expected to design a complex life support system into your medical projects, to do it well, economically and 100% compliant with a number of specialist codes and standards.

The ASSE 6060 credential was promulgated as a step toward addressing that gap. It at least offers a foundation for the designer in the 40 hours of education and the exam that shows you can manipulate the code. It doesn’t make you an expert. Maybe worse, the course is a graduate level course presented in 40 nearly continuous hours. The metaphor of “drinking from a fire hose” is familiar to anyone who’s tried it.

The Savvy 6060 is our way of offering you a way to capture the things that went by too fast and refresh the ones you believe you caught. At the same time we hope to help form and communicate with the growing ASSE 6060 Medical Gas Designer community for better, safer medical gas systems.
